Privacy Policy
How we use your data
In an effort to protect our clients’ and site visitors’ privacy and rights, we have established a Privacy Policy that explains what information we gather on visitors and what we do with the information that we gather.
This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which we collect, use, maintain and disclose information collected from users of this website (each, a “User”).
Privacy
Users’ privacy is very important to us. We are committed to safeguarding the information Users entrust to us. Channel Island Hosting complies with the Bailiwick of Guernsey Data Protection Law, 2017. We also comply with GDPR rules and regulations governing the use, storage and management of your data. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]. You may also contact the Data Protection Commissioner of the Bailiwick of Guernsey (https://www.odpa.gg/) if you feel that we have been unable to resolve your query to your satisfaction.
Data Collection
We collect personally identifiable information from Users through online forms for ordering products and services and usage of the secure Client Area. This includes but is not limited to:
- Name & Address
- A secure 2FA challenge to allow us to assist customers via telephone, as well as support tickets.
- Payment details and payment history. (We do not hold personal credit card information in our system. All payment information is transmitted to our third-party payment processor, Stripe, and held there. This ensures we are able to offer a higher level of security around your payment details.)
- IP address of login and payments, which is used for security and fraud protection purposes.
We may also collect information about how Users use our website, for example, by tracking the number of unique views received by the pages of the website or the domains from which Users originate. We use “cookies” to track how Users use our website.
Cookie Policy
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help us remember your preferences, understand how you use our site, and improve your experience.
Types of Cookies We Use
Essential Cookies: These are necessary for the website to function properly (such as keeping you logged in).
Performance/Analytics Cookies: These cookies help us understand how visitors use our site, allowing us to improve it.
Functional Cookies: These remember your preferences and choices.
Marketing Cookies: These cookies help us show you relevant ads and measure the effectiveness of our marketing efforts.
How You Can Control Cookies
You can manage your cookie preferences at any time by adjusting your browser settings or using our cookie settings tool. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies, but this may affect how our website functions for you.
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” feature. Not all websites can currently respond to these signals, but you can still manage cookies as described above.
Domain Registration Personal Information Sharing
We collect personally identifiable information from domain registrants at the time of registration, and as and when updated by the registrant. We are contractually obliged to share that information with the respective ICANN-accredited registrars/registries we use to register the domain, to comply with ICANN global rules and regulations governing the registration of domains.
Where applicable, Users may request that their personal data not be published to publicly available databases (i.e. WHOIS, etc.) by the respective registrars/registries, in the form of optional ID Privacy, but please be aware that not all registries support ID privacy. This is indicated by the lack of ID Privacy options at the time of registering a domain. By way of exception, .GG/.JE domains are automatically provided ID Privacy by the Registry itself (with the exception of the ‘Organisation’ field), so no ID Privacy is offered with those respective TLDs.
The collection and onward provision of valid registrant data when registering a domain is a contractual requirement placed on us by the respective ICANN accredited Registrars/Registries. If a registrant does not want us to share their personal data, they can either defer the registration, transfer or cancel their domain accordingly.
Data Usage
We may use personally identifiable information collected through our website to contact Users regarding products and services offered by us and our trusted affiliates, independent contractors and business partners, and otherwise to enhance Users’ experience with us and such affiliates, independent contractors and business partners.
At no time will our database of users ever be sold to any entity for the purpose of marketing or mailing lists. Personal information will not be sold or otherwise transferred to our business partners, except that we will disclose the information we collect to third parties when, in our good faith judgment, we are obligated to do so under applicable laws or to third-party service providers in the course of provisioning the registration of domains, in line with ICANN rules and regulations governing the registration of a domain name (https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/responsibilities-2014-03-14-en), the establishment of hosting services or to enable payment and anti-fraud checks, etc.
Data Deletion Requests
When we receive a request to delete all of your personal data, we will delete all personal data we have about you. Please note that there may be some exceptions. For example, we may be required to keep some data in order to comply with anti-fraud regulations. Note that by erasing your data, we will no longer provide our services to you, unless you re-register. For security reasons, we have a wait period on data erasure: we will give you the opportunity to cancel this erasure request for 48 hours. After that, this erasure operation is final and cannot be reversed.
